M.D.S. Stripes

I have an absolute fetish with blue & white stripes; it's one of those looks that I'll always make room for in my closet. Whether navy with white or shades of sky blue with white, I flock to items that capture the nautical staple. (Excuse the fact that Cincinnati is landlocked…)
I wear tons of blue & white, I am one of those Catholic school kids who actually liked uniforms and can credit it as still influencing my style today! I wear blue & white throughout the year, but there is something about blue & white stripes that makes it an absolute summer classic - crisp, fresh and timeless. So naturally, I am head over heels with this new line.
One of my favorite tastemakers, Mark D. Sikes, just launched M.D.S. Stripes this spring, a 2016 Resort Collection on Moda Operandi. It's absolute perfection and every look is right up my alley!

Who doesn’t love a blue and white stripe? Jane Birkin, James Dean, and Pablo Picasso all made the ubiquitous stripe their signature. As did interior designer Mark D. Sikes when he launched MDS Stripes in 2015, a collection devoted entirely to the blue and white stripe, offering cotton dresses, knits, and accessories. This Resort season, Sikes offers up nontraditional takes on the classic motif, as peasant tops and ruffled skirts bring a fresh, new feel.

Festival of Arts: Pageant of the Masters

For more than eighty years, living pictures are created each summer in Laguna Beach as part of the annual Festival of Arts.
Laguna Beach has been a magnet for artists - an artist sanctuary - since the turn of the twentieth century. In an effort to bring more people to the small, seaside artist village during the Great Depression, the Laguna Beach Art Association began hosting a Festival of the Arts, which included a "Living Pictures." In the exhibit, local residents were dressed in costume and seated behind a frame, fascinating audiences as great masterpieces came to life!
The Festival of Arts is now a world renowned cultural institute, welcoming visitors from around the world.
The event takes place every evening in July and August, with tickets ranging from $15 -$225. There are more than 40 life-size renditions being created for this year's show.

Read more about the show and the institute in the Wall Street Journal
