classy girls

For all of the classy girls!
One of my most favorite songs - the BEST lyrics ever.

"Classy Girls"

Well she was standing in a bar
I said, 'Hello, how do you do?'
She handed me a beer with a kangaroo

She spoke of places I had never been
That she had traveled to
And we slowed danced, faster too

And I made her laugh, I made a pass
I showed her my half dollar ring
She said, 'that's pretty cool,
but classy girls don't kiss in bars your fool'

So later on the crowd calmed down
And I believe it was as if something drew me closer to her lips

So picture my surprise when I had tried to lean in for a kiss
And she just smiled and turned her head down

I asked her 'Why?' and she replied
It was nothing I was doing wrong, it's just what it is.
No, classy girls don't kiss in bars like this

No classy girls don't kiss in bars
Boys will break their backs and hearts
But it's alright, the hardest part is through.

Oh through!
Oh through!
Oh through
The hardest part is through.

moonwalk

This Sunday is the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati. Although I am not running in the marathon, it's a city-wide event! Kudos to all the athletic superstars who are racing this weekend. I admire your determination and training over the past few months; wish I had that dedication! I am signing up to train for a summer 4 mile race in Hyde Park. I am training with a group and that starts next week. I know it's nowhere near a marathon ranking - but hey, you gotta start somewhere, right?
One of my favorite things that I came across this week was this video documenting the origins of the moonwalk. Yep, long before MJ was even born, people were strutting their stuff.
For those that aren't running this week, maybe you can join me in a little moonwalk dance-off! I think dancing is the best exercise; honestly, I'd pick this ANY day over running.
I may or may not be practicing the moonwalk as I get ready for bed...
Enjoy your weekend everyone, toodles!

Playing DJ: The 21st night of September!

September 21st is one of my favorite dates of all time, see HERE.
That means it's time to cue a dancing playlist!!
At the end of my college career I asked my favorite weekend spot (the local bar) if I could start playing my music. I played DJ "iTunes clicker" for three or four times and I absolutely loved it. I was able to stand up on stage, twirl around to my favorite tunes, and try to make people have just as much fun as I was! I was far from a professional DJ; I had to borrow equipment from friends and had no clue how to mix music. I relied on my iTunes library, the power of a playlist, and being the master of ceremonies by leading the crowd to a night of singing and dancing.
Every time I played Miss DJ, I came as myself. And that means...fancy party dress, my go-to festive accessories, and the best songs for twirling.

I adored reading about Upper East Side society maven, Majorie Gubelmann who has found her "ulterior identity" in DJing as well. The social butterfly used to play tunes on her college radio station and offered to DJ for a friend's party a couple of years ago. She loved it and continues to get the party started at galas across the NY social scene, in fact DJ Mad Marj is becoming a vastly growing brand. My most favorite part of her DJ package is her dress code, "I always wear a proper dress, usually Oscar de la Renta, Zac Posen, or Givenchy couture. Lots of jewelry." How fabulous!

Although my time turning tables is probably over, I can still make playlists!

My secret recipe for DJ success: people feel much more comfortable dancing when they can sing along, I try and play songs with words most people know. And, most importantly...lead the dance party!

Get your dancing shoes on...if I was DJing this weekend, this would be my playlist:

lamp shades

Occasions by kate spade:
The hands on the clock are hitting Hour #6 at a cocktail party, the tarts have long since disappeared, and the candles are just stubs. Out of the corner of your eye, you realize that a lampshade has just become someone's party hat. Does this mean the party's over?
Sometimes even the plainest "cues" don't work on those guests who have crossed the line from partygoers to party stayers. If people are still enjoying themselves, then do your tired best to keep smiling. But once the décor becomes someone else's wardrobe, by all means call it quits.

Such a notorious sign of boisterous and boozy party guests, I think there is still a playful and whimsical element to lampshade décor. I have never twirled around in a lampshade...I think with my lack-of-balance, ensuring I can at least have open eyes is probably quite crucial.
Despite the negative connotation, I think these pictures depict a festive and fun atmosphere.
In fact, I think it's like the party King and Queen's crown.
If your goofy accessory is well-received...lamp shade hair might be a new thing.

Happy weekend, toodles!

Repetto

Only the most PERFECT ballet flats in the entire world.
I am so grateful I work at a boutique so I can treat myself every now and then to the store's beautiful items! My most recent investment are Repetto ballet flats (in cork and black). They are très chic and I feel like a ballerina whenever I wear them.
In addition to footwear, the line also sells professional ballet attire (shoes, leotards, and tutus) and ballerina-esque fashions for tiny dancer in us all.
Enjoy the most twirl worth shoes yet, toodles!

Tony Time!

The Tony Awards have always been my favorite out of the "top tier" award shows. Maybe it's the theatre minor in me, but I have so much fun watching the annual gala. How can you not love the entertainment with singing, acting, and performing? It's like I am going to a Broadway show taking place in my living room! This year has proven to be a strong one in the performing arts world and Neil Patrick Harris will once again take the ropes in recognizing theatre's greats this Sunday evening.
Will you be watching??

Visit the New York Times' Tony Ballot for more information on the nominees and a ballot for you to predict the winners in each category.

If you haven't really kept up on what's been happening on Broadway this past year...all you need to know if children were the inspiration this year! Some of the top works up for awards include: Matilda, CinderellaA Christmas Story, and Bring It On.
Aside from the childhood delights, Cindy Lauper's compositions appear in Kinky Boots, which has been a shocking hit.

Skim through some of these articles in the New York Times to give you more background info!

flapper girl

Who else is excited for The Great Gatsby release? I know people counting down the days! I have loved following the press releases over the past couple of weeks. The advertisements have been tremendous, filled with more glitz & glam than I could ever imagine. I have busied myself reading some interesting articles, particularly on the fashion world's collaboration in creating the magnificent wardrobes in the film. Finally, the soundtrack is just out of this world. Listen below to the new release by the popular voice of Lana del Ray.
And here's to kicking your heels up for a great week!
