Paper dresses

Talking about a demanding fashionista!

This four year old has the most incredible wardrobe AND you won't even believe how it's created!
Taking apart the arts and craft box, Mayhem's style is composed of paper and tape. The four-year became tired of her regular clothes and worked with mom to create absolute masterpieces. The stunning dresses are inspired from Disney movies, trips to the Aquarium, the Red Carpet, and more. The final products are unique, personal, and pint-sized.
Huffington Post writes about the dress-up progression between mother and daughter. The journey has been going on for the past 9 months, with little sign of slowing down.
The story is a beautiful and refreshing one. I love hearing of imagination explorations and Mayhem is especially charming. I hope she will always be an exemplary and creative spirit...I also hope that more children will have the resources and encouragement to create and explore.

I think I might be more excited to see Mayhem's Academy Award creations than the Red Carpet itself!

school days

One of my best friends heads back to the classroom today!
Another good friend started teaching yesterday, and I have to say with both of them beginning work that they love so much (early childhood ed + art ed)
today is the perfect day to be inspired with "back to school" and share one of the most creative spaces in the world...the art room!

I have always loved the eclectic-ness of art classrooms and remember being in awe of the art studio at my grade school. Every square inch of the walls were decorated with posters of timeless masterpieces. Cabinets were stacked with books featuring biographies of famous artists, snapshots of museums around the world, and instructional features on the many facets of the subject area. Color wheels and mobiles hung from the ceiling, paper scraps overfilled boxes and drawers, and empty coffee cans stood scattered around the room holding paint brushes sticking out in every which way. The tables had more layers of paint than I could count and we'd chip off piece by piece, only to discover another bright color below. The chalk board (of what was left uncovered) had half-erased sketches of animals, dancers, and other forms which seemed so effortless when drawn by the teacher....but were ALWAYS impossible for me to create.
It was an absolute mess, but the most inspiring mess I have ever found.

Art is so important to me. I never had the raw talent, but have always held a strong appreciation for the subject matter. In fact, my blogging has been my ability to channel my own art and appreciation for the creative field. I was just recently invited to join ArtsWave's YP board, and I am so excited to begin work for the Arts in Cincinnati.  I hope to get better immersed in cultivating the arts culture.

Most importantly, I am thrilled to see how my dear friends make the world a little bit better by sharing their creative and nurturing wisdom on the world with a little bit of love and lots of imagination.

Here's to getting lost in your own magical, creative space!

dreaming

Today marks the 50th Anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. On this dream day, not only should we reflect on his dream, but we should reflect on our own.
What are your dreams?
How are you empowering your dreams to come true?
Think about the dreams you had 5, 10, 15 years ago.
Have some of them come true? Have they changed?
Pick today, this moment, to think about new dreams you might have.
What do you wish for yourself? Your loved ones? The world?

Dreams don't always have to be grandiose, they can be simple moments in your life. Many people can be dream cynics; that dreaming is a waste of time, not built in reality, etc.
Frankly, I don't know where I would be without dreaming! In addition to my life-long musings, I have been a day dreamer for as long as I can remember. I am the queen of disappearing into my own little thoughts, but instead of building a false reality, I think it helps me become a better person. I take my daydreams to teach me to be the best person I can be and I strive for that every day.

I hope you can realize that we live in such a wonderful world, and we have the capabilities to make it even better. What a beautiful foundation for a journey to begin. With the right people, faith, and positive motives, endless blessings can be in one's favor.
The best supplement to dream wishing and granting...is joy with your life and the world around you.
Not everything is perfect, but we have the power to react to our life in whichever way we choose.
Living a life of joy, happiness, gratitude, kindness, and faith can make dreams come true for you and the rest of the world.
Find that joy in your life and share it with others.
