It's A Lilly Party - And You're Invited!

There have been a number of times in my life where I truly think attending Lilly Pulitzer parties was my calling - or at least I should have been born in a generation where it could have been.
I mean face-it, how many people would turn down invitations to twirl in colorful shift dresses with dashing gents; sip champagne from jewel tone flutes served by cheerful monkeys; join giraffes lounging poolside; clink sweet dessert dishes amongst flamingo decor; host delightful tea parties with the french doors open wide...
The spot by Target is just perfect....save for the fact they could have found a different male celeb than Christopher Noth... Anyways, after swaying along to "keep it coming love"enjoy a few snapshots of the authentic 'Lilly bash.'

lamp shades

Occasions by kate spade:
The hands on the clock are hitting Hour #6 at a cocktail party, the tarts have long since disappeared, and the candles are just stubs. Out of the corner of your eye, you realize that a lampshade has just become someone's party hat. Does this mean the party's over?
Sometimes even the plainest "cues" don't work on those guests who have crossed the line from partygoers to party stayers. If people are still enjoying themselves, then do your tired best to keep smiling. But once the décor becomes someone else's wardrobe, by all means call it quits.

Such a notorious sign of boisterous and boozy party guests, I think there is still a playful and whimsical element to lampshade décor. I have never twirled around in a lampshade...I think with my lack-of-balance, ensuring I can at least have open eyes is probably quite crucial.
Despite the negative connotation, I think these pictures depict a festive and fun atmosphere.
In fact, I think it's like the party King and Queen's crown.
If your goofy accessory is well-received...lamp shade hair might be a new thing.

Happy weekend, toodles!

skinny-dip swim!

After posting about my favorite summer swim-suits early this week, it was quite coincidental that I came across the following article. CNN researched the 22 BEST places to take a skinny dip. So, even though you have a killer swim suit, you just might have to shed it when traveling to any of these destinations.
Have you ever been skinning dipping? Save for a quick dip after a long hike in Nova Scotia with my cousins about a decade ago, I have stayed clear of the nude. Although, there is something quite intriguing about being a "little rebellious" every now and again.

Formal Recruitment

Today is the kick-off for Formal Recruitment Weekend. Being Recruitment Chair, it's been quite a busy week, but I couldn't be more proud of the hard work and enthusiasm from all of the girls. We are so excited to meet everyone and can't wait for new members to run down to the house on Monday!

Hoping you have a weekend with at least a little bit of clapping and singing that will be echoing the sorority girls at OWU all weekend.

Okay girls. Silent Smiles...and go!

Toodles!

Happy Birthday Lilly Pulitzer!

"There was a little juice and fruit bar where I would slice the oranges and squeeze the fruit to make the juice. My friends would stop in and we would talk and laugh and have fun. But, boy was it messy. I used to have this wonderful old Swiss lady make shifts for me. I found this bright fabric, the same colors as the fruit, so that the splashes and mess wouldn't show. People would say, "Oh they're great. Why don't you have them in your shop?" So I went down to Woolworth's, got some fabric and had twelve dresses made for me, and I just hung them haphazardly around the store." -Lilly Pulitzer

Jungle Glam

Even though it's crisp and chilly outside right now...and blustery days are ahead, I am going to throw us back in a little summer-fun mode with my outfit today!
In honor of Lilly Pulitzer's 2011 resort-wear release, I have taken a couple of pieces from her new collection to show off to the readers.

This outfit would be perfect for a night-time cocktail soiree in a festive, tropical scene. We are envisioning Jungle Glam people!
So here's a little taste of the exotic summer fun:

I am loving these fantastic cigarette pants in black and white, with a simple white tank. Accessorize the look with a bright orange pashmina (pop of color that will keep you warm with the night sea breeze), a white, gold, and orange cuff, simple black and gold earrings, and these FABULOUS mint green wedges. The shade will look dynamic against the black and white and complements the orange superbly!

Here's where you can shop the look:

Elaina Cigarette Pant $138
Basic Scoop Vest $12
Orange Viscose Solid Pashmina $20
Kate Spade Round Lever-Back Earrrings $58
Coral Siesta Cuff $68
Resort Chic Wedge Suede $198

Bold: Lilly Pulitzer designs @ Lilly Pulitzer

This look can be seen on {long distance loving} today as well, I am entering for a Lilly Pulitzer Giveaway!

A close-up at the fabulous print on the cigarette pants, sign me up for this party!

Happy Friday everyone!!

raspberry pink and blue

How about color combinations of blue and pink? To avoid a "baby shower" feel, I used pops of raspberry as details with the blue shades.

"they loved each other, but they were fish"

I was sunbathing at the pool this past weekend (working on a healthy summer glow) where I heard the above phrase. As I was flipping through a magazine, I overheard a young boy walking by telling a story to his friend. The story began, "they loved each other, but they were fish". Not only do I love the imagination and creativity, but I thought it was one of the most adorable things I have ever heard!

For a love of all things fish!
