sylvia weinstock

The grand dame of cakes.
For over 30 years, Sylvia Weinstock has created gorgeous cakes. Not only are they beautiful creations, but they are made from the most delectable ingredients so the taste will match the decorating masterpiece!
Here's the story of the cake queen herself, courtesy of The Knot.

How it all began:
While on a family ski trip to Hunter Mountain, Ms. Weinstock was introduced to a retired pastry chef George Keller. He took her on as an apprentice and it wasn't long before she was supplying desserts to Hunter area restaurants every weekend while her husband and three daughters skied.

Business Breakthrough:
Ms. Weinstock created a wedding cake for her daughter's friend who was getting married. The young woman worked in a take-out food shop and put the cake in the window. A chef, who worked for the then premier society caterer in New York City, Donald Bruce White, inquired where the cake came from, and Ms. Weinstock started getting cake orders from the caterer each weekend. Then orders began coming in from women who attended the catered receptions...and the rest is history.

Order your own cake (but prepare your bank account!)

A real J.Crew wedding

Rarely do I post wedding images on Twirling Clare. But I came across this shoot on Refinery 29 and just had to share. So many weddings now are one beautiful feature after another on Style Me Pretty. They are gorgeous, even breathtaking; it's obvious that so much time, energy, and expenses went in to creating the magical evening for a couple's happily ever after. However, I sometimes feel that you lose sight of the couple, the people behind the celebration. You see the flowers, the table settings, the lanterns, the cake...but after awhile they all start looking the same. I don't intend to sound stupid - there is only so much diversity you can have in a wedding. But I do wish more of these weddings had authenticity, character, realness. And cowboy boots DON'T cut it.
These photos appear to capture that one-of-a-kind magic. I see a story, a relationship...I see their characters alive in the photos and the surroundings. These photos allow to connect with the couple and see their spirit come alive. In the pomp and glamour of weddings, I think it's worth taking a few minutes to make sure your own spirit comes alive.

spring wedding

May typically kicks-off the wedding season. I am certain that there are some of you who have your calenders booked for months to come as friends seem to be walking down the aisle right and left!
I put together a very classic wedding look, perfect for late spring and early summer weddings. I love to dress-up and think that NO ONE should attend a wedding underdressed. This outfit is polished, figure flattering, and has the perfect accessories to complement both the season and the occasion. Most importantly you will be comfortable from the afternoon sun to the moonlight dance floor.
