punchy print feat: Sheridan French

Sheridan French is one of my favorite designers and nothing seems to be saying summer more to me than her festive prints! I adore the rich color in this tunic-style dress especially with the gold details along the collar. I would pair the outfit with a little sapphire blue clutch/shoulder bag as a dynamic contrast to the bright hues in the dress. Classic hoops, a dramatic gold ring, and summer staple Jack Rogers would comprise the rest of the outfit. Make sure you have a proper pop of pink on the lips and lather those legs in your favorite lotion!

may flowers

Tis the season! After countless weeks of rainy, dreary grey weather...both here and across the Atlantic...I think it's paid off! I adore walking around and seeing the budding flowers and lush color. Graduation is this weekend at school and the campus has never looked more beautiful.
Dress like spring!

color blocking

Happy summer Twirling Clare fans!
The theme for this week's Friday's Fancies is Color Block and I am eager to share my outfit with you today. I found this beautiful Tibi dress that I would love to have in my closet, aren't the bright colors perfect for summer?? I provided several shoe options. The sandals on the left are flats, your classic T-strap and then a pair of Jack Rogers. The sandals on the right have a bit of a wedge; whatever your preference, there should be an option!

As always, you can shop the look below AND visit {long distance loving} for more outfits inspirations.

Mardi Gras King Cake

Happy Fat Tuesday! Enjoy this delicious holiday treat.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 (16 oz) container sour cream
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 (1/4 oz) envelopes active dry yeast
1 tablespoon white sugar
1/2 cup warm water (~100-110 degrees)
2 eggs
6 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (divided)
1/2  cup white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/3 cup better or margarine (softened)

Colored Frostings:
3 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons butter (melted)
3 tablespoons milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 drops green food coloring
2 drops yellow food coloring
2 drops blue food coloring
2 drops red food coloring

Colored Sugars:
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 drops green food coloring
2 drops yellow food coloring
2 drops red food coloring
2 drops blue food coloring

Directions:
1. Cook butter/margarine, sour cream, sugar and salt in a saucepan over low heat, stirring often, until butter melts. Cool mixture to ~100-110 degrees.
2. Dissolve yeast and 1 tablespoon sugar in 1/2 cup warm water in a large bowl; let stand 5 min. Add butter mixture, eggs, and two cups flower; beat at medium speed with an electric mixer 2 minutes or until smooth. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
3. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes. Place in a well-greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place (~85 degrees), free from drafts, 1 hour or until doubled in bulk.
6. Stir together 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon; set aside
7. Punch dough down; divide in half. Turn 1 portion out onto a lightly floured surface; roll to a 28 x 10 in. rectangle. Spread half each of cinnamon mixture and soften butter on dough. roll dough, jellyroll fashion, starting at long side. Place dough roll, seam side down, on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bring ends together to form an oval ring, moistening and pinching ends together to seal. Repeat with remaining dough, cinnamon mixture, and butter.
8. Cover and let rise in a warm place, free from drafts, 20 minutes (or until doubled in bulk).
9. Bake a 375 degrees for 15 minutes (or until golden). Decorate with bands of colored frostings and sprinkle with colored sugars.
Colored Frostings:
Stir together powdered sugar and melted butter. Add milk to reach desired consistency for drizzling; stir in vanilla. Divide frosting into 3 batches, tinting 1 green, 1 yellow, and combining red and blue food coloring for purple frosting.
Colored Sugars:
Place 1/2 cup sugar and drop of green food coloring in a jar or zip-top plastic bag; seal. Shake vigorously to evenly mix color with sugar. Repeat procedure with 1/2 cup sugar and yellow food coloring. For purple, combine 1 drop red and one drop blue food coloring before adding to remaining 1/2 cup sugar.

Wishing you the most wonderful of Mardi Gras!! Toodles!

The biggest party of the Year!

Happy New Year's Eve everyone! As promised, I have returned in time to provide you with inspirations for this celebratory evening. My family and I enjoyed a wonderful trip visiting my Dad's side of the family in DC for a couple of days and then escaping for the last half of the week to the Savage River Lounge for an incredibly relaxing few days. With no technology and cabin-style living (class A wood cabins nonetheless) we were able to have bonding time with each other and the beautiful natural surroundings. The slight dusting of snow along the trails was a perfect touch.

Enough of my travels, here we are off to find inspiration for New Year's Eve! I hope 2011 brought much joy and happiness to all of you, even though life brings difficulties and challenges, the start of a new day...a new year provides much hope for success and promise for good things to happen! As we close this year, let's do so on a happy note. There is no excuse to relish in the past year's sorrows or enter into the winter blues, where will that get you? So whether or not you are staying in with a friend or loved one or partying out on the town...have a glass of champagne (and PLEASE in a champagne flute, be festive people!), make a wish or two, and cherish the night of sparkles, thrill, and celebration for new beginnings!

gold bangles

In honor of the June color of the month annoucement, a little bit of GOLD accessory inspiration for this month:

I have never been a silver jewelry person...well maybe when I was 12...for the most part I am a gold girl. I love wearing gold bracelets and I have a some staple pieces. I have a couple of fun gold braclets...a little extra bedazzlement, a gold cuff (thanks Mom) and several different bracelets that I wear stacked together. They are an assortment from my Grandmas, Mom, and personal arts and crafts projects that I compile together on my left wrist...yes I am specific! My Grammy always wore gold bracelets on her wrists (I don't think a few of them ever came off).
I love the sophistication and glamour that is associated with gold jewelry; it is a classic look that will never go out of style and always adds a bit extra to an outfit. Most of the associations with stacked gold jewelry are country club ladies and I am not denying that my wearing might be some what similar...but its mixed with a tinge of art teacher. I always make room for my drama side in my style choices !

Here are some 'updated' gold inspirations, both classic and trendy at the same time!
Decorate those wrists!
