melon burst

The weather the past few days has been simply miraculous! The cooler temps have been divine and brought me back to some "spring" color inspirations. As our dinners have been filled with honeydews, watermelons and fruits galore....I was inspired by the color scheme AND the wonderful weather to create a summer does spring look.
Look polished for work and beyond, take a spin at an upcoming wedding, or stun the crowd at mass (you totally deserve brunch after), needless to say, this outfit has all the bases covered.
Hope you have a fabulous day, toodles!

PS-totally just treated myself to the repettos featured below (joys of working at a boutique!)

grass inspired

Happy Earth Day!
In honor of the "go green" celebration, I am inspired by the color of the day.
The easiest way to Be Green is to Think Green.

In high school I really took on an eco-friendly lifestyle, my dad even bought me a coffee table book with 365 days of environmental pictures and tips to conserve the natural climate around us. I recycled everything, used a lunch box, ate super healthy; and then college came.

When I was in college a lot of those things fell apart. I went to a liberal arts school so we definitely had environmental activists on campus (in fact we had a house devoted to them, the tree house) so there was a lot of bike riding, compost piles, Earth dances, and lunch rooms with recyclable plates & utensils. However, the typical extent of my eco-friendliness was walking down the hall each week to recycle wine bottles.

Now that I am finished with school, I am back on a kick to reduce my carbon footprint. I am eating better, using less waste, and hope that this and many other things continue! What better motivation for Earth Day?

Here's to a greener lifestyle, toodles!

topiaries

Fresh and ready for spring! Are the flowers about to bloom where you are? I can't wait for the spring green to be on the landscape palette.
Topiaries can be great interior decorations, especially as we freshen up our homes for spring.
Find a cute pot that is suitable for your interior space. Stuff with styrofoam and cover with moss.
Once the base is secured, use sticks (the height can vary) as support and turn the top of the stick into a microphone like shape by purchasing a green styrofoam which tends to absorb more water, letting the topiary last longer.
Once the shape is made, cut fresh greens (boxwoods tend to be the most popular) and arrange as an all green display or add a pop of color with ribbons or berries; your choice.
You can also find pre-made topiary stands, especially this time of the year.
Happy crafting and happy spring!

Mardi Gras King Cake

Happy Fat Tuesday! Enjoy this delicious holiday treat.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 (16 oz) container sour cream
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 (1/4 oz) envelopes active dry yeast
1 tablespoon white sugar
1/2 cup warm water (~100-110 degrees)
2 eggs
6 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (divided)
1/2  cup white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/3 cup better or margarine (softened)

Colored Frostings:
3 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons butter (melted)
3 tablespoons milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 drops green food coloring
2 drops yellow food coloring
2 drops blue food coloring
2 drops red food coloring

Colored Sugars:
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 drops green food coloring
2 drops yellow food coloring
2 drops red food coloring
2 drops blue food coloring

Directions:
1. Cook butter/margarine, sour cream, sugar and salt in a saucepan over low heat, stirring often, until butter melts. Cool mixture to ~100-110 degrees.
2. Dissolve yeast and 1 tablespoon sugar in 1/2 cup warm water in a large bowl; let stand 5 min. Add butter mixture, eggs, and two cups flower; beat at medium speed with an electric mixer 2 minutes or until smooth. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
3. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes. Place in a well-greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place (~85 degrees), free from drafts, 1 hour or until doubled in bulk.
6. Stir together 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon; set aside
7. Punch dough down; divide in half. Turn 1 portion out onto a lightly floured surface; roll to a 28 x 10 in. rectangle. Spread half each of cinnamon mixture and soften butter on dough. roll dough, jellyroll fashion, starting at long side. Place dough roll, seam side down, on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bring ends together to form an oval ring, moistening and pinching ends together to seal. Repeat with remaining dough, cinnamon mixture, and butter.
8. Cover and let rise in a warm place, free from drafts, 20 minutes (or until doubled in bulk).
9. Bake a 375 degrees for 15 minutes (or until golden). Decorate with bands of colored frostings and sprinkle with colored sugars.
Colored Frostings:
Stir together powdered sugar and melted butter. Add milk to reach desired consistency for drizzling; stir in vanilla. Divide frosting into 3 batches, tinting 1 green, 1 yellow, and combining red and blue food coloring for purple frosting.
Colored Sugars:
Place 1/2 cup sugar and drop of green food coloring in a jar or zip-top plastic bag; seal. Shake vigorously to evenly mix color with sugar. Repeat procedure with 1/2 cup sugar and yellow food coloring. For purple, combine 1 drop red and one drop blue food coloring before adding to remaining 1/2 cup sugar.

Wishing you the most wonderful of Mardi Gras!! Toodles!

Pink and Green Christmas Guide from Maryland Pink and Green!

Hello! I'm Bethany from Maryland Pink and Green and it is a privilege to write a guest post for
Twirling Clare.
Wearing pink and green is so much fun, especially during the winter when everyone else is wearing black or gray. Pink and green is fun for clothing, accessories and home decor. Here are some of my top pink and green picks for Christmas.
1. The Chevron Frame from Anthropologie adds a pop of color to any room.
2. Being from Maryland, I love all things with a crab motif and it's even better if it comes in pink. Isn't this sparkly crab headband from Fornash so adorable?
3.  A cozy throw is perfect for cold winter days at home.  The pom poms on the hem of this throw from Karma Living are so whimsical and the price is quite reasonable.
4.  Although I'm hardly Julia Child, I enjoy cooking and baking.  This pink cupcake timer is adorable.  I also use timers in my classroom.
5.  The simple pearl drop earrings from Simply Soles will match every ensemble and are so timeless.
6.  Every year I love to add a few ornaments to my tree.  This year, I love this pink macaron ornament from Sur La Table.  It's also available in green.
7.  I fell instantly in love with the posh pink and green peony tunic from Mud Pie.  You won't believe the budget friendly price, either!  It's a perfect gift!
8.  Etsy is one of my favorite places to find one of a kind gifts.  Looking 4 Lilly makes adorable headbands using Lilly Pulitzer and other preppy fabric.  This elephant headband is one of my favorites.

Thank you for letting me share this wish list on your blog today, Clare!  Please do stop by Maryland Pink and Green to enter the giveaways for a Lilly Pulitzer stocking or a set of Vineyard Vines Silk Tie Ornaments.
