Iris Apfel

"I think dressing up or down should be a creative experience. Exciting. Fun. For me the key to personal style lies in accessories. I love objects from different worlds, different eras, combined my way. Never uptight, achieving-hopefully-a kind of throwaway chic."

Iris Apfel, a long time patron of the creative arts has gained much notoriety in recent years. Even while searching for information and images on the white-haired whimsical beauty, articles and images are all less than a decade old. It is nearly impossible to even find a photo of her in her younger years. Despite Apfel's recent popularity spike, she has been heavily involved throughout her life as a force of design, fashion, and the arts. Apfel took a $15/week job at Woman's Wear Daily decades ago when she entered the working world. Before long, she saw that her talent was in interior decorating and she embarked upon a successful career as designer and decorator. Apfel was hired by no less than nine United Sates Presidents to do design and restoration projects at the White House. So, why the hype now? At 90 years old Apfel has released a coffee table book, teaches a variety of courses, and has been the feature in many popular exhibits ranging from the MET to West Palm Beach's Norton Museum of Art. And, we can't forget her appearance. With her outfits like a work of art themselves and never without the signature glasses, Apfel is a source of inspiration for all artists alike!

sleep time

Even though it's Monday and I can't be snoozing around all day, I am still a little worn out from the weekend that wasn't necessarily, "restful and relaxing". So, for the time being, (an hour or so in bed before I head to my first class and then a day filled with activities) this is the perfect inspiration! Happy Monday, Toodles!

Outfit Creation with Turtles & Pearls

Even though it's still January, Lindsey, from Turtles & Pearls, and I are celebrating a little bit of Spring Fever and are headed "off to the races" Keeneland Style!!
This week for {long distance loving}'s Friday's Fancies we were paired up to do an outfit conglomeration! After chatting with Lindsey, we realized that we had the perfect idea! Lindsey is a student at the University of Kentucky and I am from Cincinnati...do to our geographic proximity, we decided to celebrate a destination hot spot for our native areas: Keeneland Race Track. Even though the race track is only open in October and April, it's never too soon to start preparing your Spring outfits.
For our project, Lindsey chose the dress and I was responsibly for accessorizing.
To check out the dress that I picked out for Lindsey to accessorize, check out her blog!

Happy Friday and enjoy a little Spring Fever!!

Toodles!

It's Me, Eloise

Eloise is one of my favorite characters of all time. There is no six year old as fabulous! I still wish I spent my childhood with Nanny and my pet pug (and turtle) calling room service at the Plaza. Instead of bothering with school, I could spend my days spying in on all of the extravagant weddings, riding the elevators up and down, and making sure everything at the Plaza was running absolutely perfectly!
Alas, I spent my childhood in a little yellow house with no pets (unless you count three younger brothers?) and learning math and phonics. However, my free time was spent reading about Miss Eloise and all of her fantastic stories providing plenty of inspiration for an imagination crazed little girl!

disco ball fashion inspiration

Last week I did a post on disco balls (with a little late night swing inspiration from the Bee Gees) and I decided to reintroduce the theme...this time in clothes! If you're lacking a disco ball, twirl around the floor in one of these get-ups and you'll make the party!

bracelet sleeves

"We never say that a sleeve is 3/4 length, it must always be referred to as a bracelet sleeve".

I am a huge fan of bracelets, I wear them all the time! I have recently become a fan of cropped sleeves in jackets. So often these are referred to as 3/4 length sleeves. I am neither a supporter of such a generic label nor using measurement terms...so I have developed a new title, the bracelet sleeve. The length is perfect for showing a little bit of skin (your delicate wrists) adorned with the glittery and shinning bracelets of your choice! Nothing is more festive than a dress coat with bracelet sleeves, showing off your colorful bangles! If the weather is a bit nippy, no worries...more reason to sport your pair of colorful leather gloves!

It's simply Primary

It's my first day back at school! Even though I am so excited for my upcoming schedule this semester (Human Biology, Non-profit Theatre Management, and two British Literature courses)...I am reminiscing my days of 123, ABC, and red blue yellow!
Happy Monday everyone, Toodles!
